1.) Feedback from Panda Genset user

I have a Panda genset -- 4Kw. In fact it is the second one since the first one had to be replaced since it burned too much oil and couldn't be repaired. The second one (installed in 2004) has only worked occasionally for short periods of time. The unit is quite fragile and unreliable. It has been nothing but trouble from day one. I would not recommend Panda.

2.) Problems running on an INEXPENSIVE gasoline "generator"

Our second ProMariner ProTech 1240i charger quit. Each unit lasted about 18 months.

He knew the answer the whole time but refused to admit it ===> The problem may be with using the Honda generator as the AC source. Refer to the following link on our website http://www.zrd.com/faq/esdfaqmacrcy.html . As a cruiser one needs to accept the limitations, restrictions, and problems not normally found on land. To complain is simply uninformed or greedy. I see this regarding alternators all the time. It happens when one does not have the room or money to do things properly, OR ON THE CHEAP. They then complain when the natural outcome happens. People install oversized alternators on a single sheave belt instead of dual belts or serpentine and then complain instead of carrying spares, and smiling when the V-belt or water pump does not last as long as it should, bearings fail, .... They operate under the guiding principle - "There is not enough time or money to do it right the first time, but there is usually time and money to do it correctly the second time." Bottom line - A $300 home gasoline genset (Even a Honda) is not to be used as a main source of 120vac on a boat. Not even back up! Install a proper diesel genset - with its associated long term lower costs or stop complaining!
